Gearing Up For Week 4!

Grab Your Map, We're Prepping for Week 4!

Starting off With "A Conceptual Framework for Classroom Authentic Assessment"

If you want to read the article before you read my reflection, you can find it here!

This teacher noticed that a lot of his students had the same misconception, even though he went over it with them and thought that they understood the concept correctly. Instead of getting frustrated with his students, he took the responsibility for the misunderstanding and planned to teach the concept better the next year. I also liked that he knew his students enough to understand how they don't like randomly being called on in class, so he came up with an alternative to make his students more comfortable while facilitating their learning. This article reminded me how important it is for students to receive constant feedback. Not only does it let the teacher know if the student understands a concept, but it allows students to correct their mistakes so that they can learn the correct concept. In addition, by including diagnostic, formative, and summative assessments in each lesson plan, teachers are able to provide more support to their students so that they can do well in the future. I also really liked how this article mentioned community centered learning. I think this is important for students to experience because not only do they get support from their teacher, but they gain support from their peers. This helps students view learning as a collaborative effort, rather than something individualistic and intense.

Next Up For the Start of the Week..."Seven Keys to Effective Feedback"

You should read the article before you read my reflection! Luckily for you, the link for the article is right here!

After reading this article, I learned that good feedback includes not just what they person did good or bad, but how they can improve. It should be goal-oriented and something that the person will be able to see improved results from implementing. I liked the idea the article gave of recording the class so that you can see if students are confused or not by their facial expressions. This provides a visual for the teacher on who may need extra support with a lesson. This article reminded me that feedback isn't a one-time thing. It should be given consistently so that the student can see their progress and continue on the same path. Good feedback also provides a reasoning to the feedback you give. This gives the person something concrete to reflect on and improve next time.

That's All For Now!

I hope you enjoyed this glance into the beginning of week 4! Stay tuned for an update on how this week went later on!
